Dlawer Ala'Aldeen is the president of the Middle East Research Institute.

He is a former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Regional Government. He is also a former professor of Medicine at the University of Nottingham in the UK. He was chairman or member of a number of National learned societies and committees.

He has published extensively in international scientific journals and co-authored three books in microbiology.
