Mia Atoui is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and the Co-founder and President of Embrace, a leading mental health non-profit organization in Lebanon.
With over 12 years of experience in the mental health field in Lebanon, Mia is also a published researcher in this domain.
Since 2013, she has been actively involved in addressing stigma, raising awareness, and improving accessibility to mental health care in Lebanon. This work includes close coordination with the Ministry of Public Health and various local and international organizations to advocate for equitable mental health care, quality rights for individuals with lived experiences of mental illness, and the implementation of projects in mental health and psychosocial support, suicide prevention, and emergency mental health care.
She has extensive experience in suicide prevention in Lebanon and has spent the last 8 years training local communities and organizations across Lebanon to build the capacities of first responders in governmental and non-governmental organizations, health professionals and the private sector, in the detection and prevention of mental illness, active listening and de-escalation of mental health emergencies, suicide prevention, burnout, and psychological resilience among various groups in the community.
Mia holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the American University of Beirut.
