Fabrizio Marcelli has been in the Foreign Service for more than thirty years.
He is Ambassador of Italy to Lebanon since May 2nd, 2024.
He joined Italy’s diplomatic service in 1991. His first foreign assignments were in He also served within the Directorate General for Weapon Exports Unit, Financial and Economic Cooperation at the Foreign Affairs Ministry and was assigned to the Libyan Desk at the Directorate General for Middle East and Mediterranean Countries.
He held multiple positions in Antananarivo, Mar de Plata (Argentina) as Consul, Cologne. Buenos Aires, San Francisco, Mogadishu, Kinshasa. In 2016, he was appointed Ambassador to Wellington with extended authority to the islands of Tonga, Samoa, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Marshall Islands, Cook Islands and Niue.
At the Foreign Affairs Ministry, he served as Head of Human Rights Unit at the Directorate General for Security and Political Affairs, Coordinator for Trans-European Networks within the Directorate General for European Union, Diplomatic Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry and Coordinator for Multilateral Legal Diplomacy activities within the Directorate General for Global Affairs.
In 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary.
He holds a bachelor of Laws, International private law from the University of Rome.
